What is a Developmental Assessment?

"Developmental Assessment" is a deep, comprehensive evaluation which attempts to assess various aspects of the child's development such as adaptive, communication, motor, social interaction, and cognitive skills, to identify or diagnose any developmental disorders.

Who conducts the assessment?

Usually, it is done by a trained specialist, such as a child psychologist, speech-language pathologist, Occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or other specialist.

When to carry out these assessments?

Whenever you feel something is wrong with your child's development or performance.

Why I need to do these assessments?
To find out if:
- Your child needs a specific treatment.
- Your child needs a comprehensive early intervention.

How the assessment goes?

The specialist uses observation, structured and formal assessment tools and questionnaires for parents, teachers or caregivers to examine the area of concern. The result of the assessment determines whether the child needs specific treatments or early intervention services, or both.

Reminders for the parents
It is preferred that both parents attend the child's assessment, as you might have different information or ideas that could possibly help. You can both, also, take notes and compare these later to make sure that you understand everything well.

Kindly make sure that your child is in good health and in a good mood when the assessment is being carried out. A child who is scared, has a cold, or an ear infection, will not perform at his best.

Make sure, also, that your child has eaten and slept well so he can do his best in the assessment.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first treatment to complete our intake and consent forms, if you have not done so through the online system.
